Net Metering in Florida

Florida law (Statute 366.91) requires all investor-owned utilities — including FPL, Duke Energy FL, and Tampa Electric — to offer net metering programs for customer-owned renewable generation. Your system's energy offsets your home use first. Excess power is credited at the utility's avoided cost rate.

FPL System Size Tiers:

• Tier 1: Up to 10 kW AC — no application fee
• Tier 2: 10–100 kW AC — application fee + proof of insurance required
• Tier 3: 100–2,000 kW AC — application fee + insurance + fast track study

Key Facts:

• System must produce less than 115% of your annual kWh consumption
• Minimum monthly connection fee (~$25) applies even with full solar offset
• Credits roll over monthly and reset every January
• Florida does NOT allow third-party power purchase agreements (PPAs)
